Synopsis: As of 8PM Hurricane Earl had max. winds of 110mph and a minimum pressure of 948mb. This makes Earl a Cat 2 storm. Earl has weakened throughout the day as dry air and shear is affecting him as he moves North. It looks like Earl has stopped anymore Westward movement and is now moving just East of Due North at 18mph. This should keep the bulk of the strongest winds off the coast of N.C and the Hatteras area. Earl should pass about 100 miles to the East(my original forecast..LOL). There could still be some Hurricane Force gusts near the Cape Hatteras area over the Extreme Eastern OBX. Storm surge of 3ft. to 5ft. will still affect these areas as Earl passes to their East. The impacts over the rest of the Mid-Atlantic will be minimal and they are outlined in the video blog. The next possible danger area for this system will be near Cape Cod tomorrow night. Earl should now pass to the East of Cape Cod by about 100 miles. This again should keep the strongest winds offshore, but some Hurricane Force gusts could clip the Eastern End of the Cape and Nantucket Island. Extreme Eastern L.I will have some TS Force winds. Finally, the last stop for Earl will be Nova Scotia Saturday morning. At that time Earl will be a Cat 1 Hurricane or TS. Nova Scotia should be preparing for Hurricane Force winds at this time. For a more in-depth analysis please view the video blog. Stay safe tonite!
